Best view of Interlaken from the Harder Kulm – Top of Interlaken

The Harder Kulm – Top of Interlaken at 1,321 m directly above Interlaken is a great viewpoint. You can see both lakes (Brienz and Thun) and Interlaken inbetween. And if you look south, Eiger, Moench and Jungfrau present themselves beautifully.

This funicular starts just across the Aare river nearby the Interlaken East station. You will reach the summit by funicular in just about 10 minutes. On your way back, you can visit a small Alpine wildlife park with ibexes and chamois. The park is just next to the valley station, so therefore it is a logical continuation of your visit.

Highlight

Upon arrival at the summit station, your first view will already reveal the Eiger, Moench and Jungfrau. You can just follow the easy path, which takes you to the restaurant and an overhanging viewing platform. You can also do the short round tour with explanatory signs. Not visible from here but from Interlaken is the „Hardermannli“. In the cliffs of the Harder you can see a part that resembles the face of an old man. Try to find out the story behind this saga.

Eating and drinking

When you visit the restaurant, ask for the traditional Swiss specialties. A large terrace with splendid views is your best bet on days with fine weather.

Good to know

During the summer months the Harder Kulm – Top of Interlaken can also be visited in the evening, so you can enjoy the sunset while having a traditional Swiss dinner! From time to time also traditional Swiss music is played by local musicians, including Alphorn blowing.
