What does an Alpine paradise look like? Probably quite like Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. The peak with Europe’s highest mountain station soars 3,883 m. above sea level. You can take the peak lift up to the 360° viewing platform. The view from there is like paradise. You can see an incredible 38 four-thousand-metre peaks and 14 glaciers. And a must-see in Zermatt’s glacier paradise: a real glacier palace. Up above, there is a cinema lounge, fine cuisine, superb ski slopes and a little lower, on Trockener Steg or Schwarzsee, hiking and biking trails. High up in the glacial world

Your tour starts at the valley station just outside of Zermatt (a 20 minute walk or by bus). You can board the gondola here. Subsequently, the gondola takes you via the Schwarzsee, just underneath the Matterhorn, towards Trockener Steg at 2,929 m. Here you switch to the heated cabins which takes you to the summit. The highest cableway of its kind anywhere in the world boasts a number of superlatives and special features. Step into one of the panoramic cabins designed by Pininfarina, relax on a heated seat and enjoy the nine-minute journey through the high-Alpine landscape around the Matterhorn.

At the summit station you are nearly there, but you can even get higher! A short ride in a lift takes you to the summit platform where you can stun and, probably a little out of breath because of the altitude, enjoy the breathtaking view.

Highlight

The Matterhorn glacier ride is the highest 3S cableway in the world. You can choose to ride with one of four the exclusive “Crystal ride” cabins decorated with Swarovski crystals. Their true secret is only disclosed around three minutes into the ride, however, when the darkened floors suddenly become transparent to reveal stunning views of the glacial landscape 170 metres below. Hence, an amazing experience and one not to be missed!

Eventhough the prizewinning modern restaurant Matterhorn Paradise has a futuristic look with its show kitchen, panoramic window and zero-energy design, the dishes on offer are traditional regional fare. Here you can enjoy fine homemade soups and Valais specialities.

Good to know

You can visit the glacier palace, also a great attraction. It is a place of enchantment, which will draw you into the fascinating world of eternal ice. You will be surrounded by painstakingly created ice sculptures and centuries-old ice formations.
