Maennlichen, the centrally located panorama mountain

You can reach the Maennlichen from Wengen by cable car or alternatively from Grindelwald by gondola. Each approach has its own character. The approach from Wengen is steep, but on the other side the alpine slopes gently descent to Grindelwald. For this reason, these slopes were already very popular soon after skiing was introduced in the region.

Climbing a mountain and stand in the crown

Whether you have arrived from Wengen or Grindelwald, a short 20 minute hike leads to the true summit. The hike is rewarded with a great panorama. You can see the high peaks of the Bernese Oberland, but you can also look down into the deeply carved valleys of Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald. With some luck you may see dome marmots and in summer cows are grazing, ensuring creamy milk to produce the natural mountain cheese.

Also on the way to the summit, various information tables give explanation about several topics, for instance the quest for the famous Eiger North Face.

Highlight

When coming from Wengen, take your place on the rooftop balcony of the new cableway cabin and feel like Queen Elizabeth II greeting her subjects. You might even be tempted to try out your best royal wave, but we’ll leave that up to you (only in summer).

Eating and drinking

Try the tasty potato roesti topped with grated cheese or a bowl of piping-hot goulash soup. You can try the Eiger-live speciality coffee with lashings of whipped cream or a cold beer to quench your thirst. You can enjoy all these and other specialties at the Maennlichen Mountain Guest House with its huge terrace and spacious indoor dining venues.

Good to know

You can hike over a very famous hiking route to the Kleine Scheidegg. Because it has a little vertical rise, the hike is not so strenuous and can be completed in about 1 ½ hours. Thus the Maennlichen can be combined with your Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe excursion.

Duration of the trip

Included is some time at the restaurant for drinks or a meal. However when adding a hike, the excursion will take up to one full day.
