Allmenalp, the high viewpoint just above Kandersteg
The best views can often be found from the opposite side. This is in particular true at this little known Alp at 1,730 m. From the Allmenalp the view of the Bluemlisalp mountains is fantastic, and Kandersteg sits right below.
Just outside Kandersteg on the western side of the valley, the small cable car runs every 15 minutes. Looking up, one may not believe, that above the sheer wall a green alpine meadow stretches further up with grazing cows. When you look carefully, you can see several people in this wall. They climb up the so called “Via Ferrata”, which means iron path. Well secured with cables and several hooks and holds. It looks as if these climbers are glued to the rock face but on closer examination, you will discover they gradually climb and move upwards.
The view is spectacular and one can do smaller hikes through the alpine meadows. Also, the ride in the small cable car and the view of the rock wall is certainly a special feature.
The Allmen-Beizli at the summit station serves fine own produced Swiss alp cheese, snacks or basic meals. Relax, and enjoy the panoramic view.
The aforementioned “Via Ferrata” can be climbed. This is only possible for well-trained and experienced hikers. For those who want to try it, we recommend to book a tour by experienced alpine guide.
Included is some time at the restaurant for drinks or a meal. For a hike add additional time according the length.
